This policy explains what data PirateMap collects when you visit the site, why we collect it and what your rights are. We collect as little as possible.
Who is responsible
The data controller is the operator of PirateMap. You can contact us about privacy at any time through our contact form.
Data we collect
- Technical data: like every website, our servers and our content delivery and security provider (Cloudflare) process your IP address, browser type and the pages you request, to deliver the site and protect it from attacks. Server logs are kept for a limited time.
- Contact form: when you write to us we store your name, email address, message and, for spam protection, your IP address and browser. We use them only to reply to you and delete them when they are no longer needed.
- User rating: when you rate a site we store your vote without your name. To allow one vote per person we keep a cookie in your browser and an irreversible fingerprint of your IP address for 90 days.
- Outbound links: when you visit a reviewed site through our links we count the click. The count is anonymous.
Cookies and local storage
pll_language– remembers the language you chose (1 year).pm_v_…– remembers that you already rated a site (90 days).pm-theme– stored in your browser to remember light or dark mode; it is never sent to us.- Cloudflare may set technical cookies needed for security (for example to tell people from bots).
We do not use advertising or profiling cookies.
Legal basis
We process technical data and rating data on the basis of our legitimate interest in running a secure and reliable website, and contact form data to answer your request.
Sharing
We do not sell your data and we do not share it with third parties, except with the technical providers that host and protect the site, and when required by law.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to object to or restrict its processing, and to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority. To exercise your rights, contact us through our contact form.
External sites
The sites we review have their own privacy practices, which we do not control. Check their policies before using them.
Changes
We may update this policy. The current version is always available on this page.
